I got your party right hereAfter living in the apartment for a couple months, Monica and I threw a housewarming party that coincided with her 25th birthday. Friends were invited and we cleaned and prepared food and the whole shebang. Most of our friends were able to make it so that’s a plus. Dug traveled two hours from Albany and braved scary roads to hang out so good on him. It was great seeing everyone too. I’ve mentioned in the past that all of our friends live a bit away. They don’t live close enough that we can just pop in and hang out (aside from Anthony who lives across the complex.) Instead we have to drive an hour or take a train ride to see them so needless to say, it was fun.

Most of the time we talked and drank. I tried some rum in both coke and with some juice and I didn’t care for it. I think I might just not like alcohol. Some great fun was had when Monica and I taught everyone Eat Poo, You Cat. We learned the game from Dave and Jess when we saw them in Georgia in July and we were excited to play it again. Here’s the basics of the game:

You need at least 6 people, but you also need an even number. Each person is handed 6 pieces of paper (the amount of paper should be the same as the amount of people playing). You then write down a phrase of some kind. This can be anything and the more random, the better. I’ve used “It takes time to build a house out of yarn and cookies.” That’s the kind of shit we’re talking about here. With that done, you pass the stack of paper to the next person and they have to draw what you wrote. Then that person hands the whole stack to the next person who has to write down what they think the drawing means. You continue around until the paper gets back to you and you see what kind of mess was created and where your phrase went horribly horribly wrong. It’s fun. The game was a big hit, so thank you, Dave and Jess for sharing it with us.

DSCF2161The antics went on until about 2:30 which is way past my bedtime. We didn’t even play much in the way of video games. The main entertainment was had during Eat Poo, You Cat and conversations around the apartment. We also had just the right amount of food (in my opinion) which was surprising and fortunate because we were going to order pizzas and put out some other food that we had bought too. More pictures can be found on Flickr.

The next order of business is the idea of a Halloween party. Not sure if that’s going to happen, but Monica is looking to meet some locals in the complex and has put the invite out through the complex’s Facebook page. We’ll see.
